One nice thing about listening to the radio is the fact that you can continue with other activities at the same time. The downside to traditional radio is the fact that you have to listen to a show at the time that show is on the air.

Internet radio to the rescue. Not only interesting, easy to listen to shows, but once they’ve aired, you can listen to them on your computer whenever you like. And if you listen while the show is being recorded, you can interact with the host by means of a chat feature or by using your microphone. How many traditional radio shows can do that?

One of the most popular sites to listen to the radio online is Blog Talk Radio. There you’ll find a radio show for every topic imaginable. Some are hosted by names you’ll recognize and some might be presented by someone in your neighbourhood. With the Internet, anything is possible.

If you’ve always wanted to try your hand at a radio show, sign up to be a host. It’s free, not too hard, and can be done once or on a regular basis. Besides something to talk about, or interview someone else about, all you need is the ability to make a long distance call. (You’ll use the Internet to monitor your show, but your telephone to do the talking.) Once your show is recorded, you can download the mp3 or put it on a website. Blog Talk Radio will also submit your episode to Itunes.

Maybe you’ll find your calling hitting the airwaves. I certainly enjoyed doing it, in spite of any mistakes I made. Go ahead and listen to my first episode of Inspirational Women and let me know when you record your own show.

These days, with the weather so changeable, it’s a good idea to make sure there are no flight delays before you head out to the airport. Here in Toronto, I checked the flight arrivals at GTAA (otherwise known as Pearson airport) before going to meet my daughter’s flight. 

I was so pleased to have found the site. In an easy to understand format, all of the air flights were listed. At a glance, I could see which planes were on time, which had arrived, and which flights were delayed, along with the new arrival time.  Sure enough, daughter’s flight had been delayed for quite some time. Taking a few minutes to hop on the Internet saved us hours of waiting around at the airport.

A bit more about eBay. Although some people will tell you that eBay is no longer popular, my local computer store is now selling software to help you learn to sell on eBay. If you’ve seen it and are wondering if you should buy, don’t. Between the free tutorials available on eBay and the ease of using their system, it isn’t really necessary.

When buying on eBay, you will come across a number of abbreviations, some of which are listed here. As a seller, using these abbreviations will sometimes be necessary, especially when you want to describe something in the title of your item, which has very limited space for text.

BIN: Buy it Now. A fixed price auction.

BNWT: Brand New With Tags. An item that has never been used and still has its original tags.

BW: Black and White. Used for films, photos etc.

EUR: Euro Currency.

FC: First Class. Type of postage.

GBP: Great British Pounds Currency.

HTF: Hard To Find. Not quite as misused as ‘rare’, but getting there.

NIB: New in Box. Never opened, still in its original box.

NR: No Reserve. An item where the seller has not set a reserve price.

OB: Original Box. An item that has its original box (but might have been opened).

PM: Priority Mail.

PP: Parcel Post.

SH: Shipping and Handling. The fees the buyer will pay for postage.

USD: United States Dollars Currency.

VGC: Very Good Condition. Not mint, but close.
