This past week I’ve come across a number of Internet resources that I want to share with you.

1. Two new WordPress plugins that I’ve just started installed and find really useful. One is called the WP Touch plugin and when used it makes your WordPress site viewable on a mobile device.  The other WordPress plugin is called the Simple Facebook Share Button and it adds an easy way for your readers to share your post with their friends on Facebook. Both of the plugins are free and were easy enough for even me to install.
2. Facebook has a new application called Vpype that allows you to do live streaming video right from your Facebook page. You can interact via the comments at the same time and tell a story, do some training, answer questions, whatever. The show is then recorded so that other visitors to your Facebook page can watch at a later date. To find the app, type the name in the search box on Facebook and then install it.
3. Would you like to find some beautiful and free photographs to use on your website or blog? My daughter Bridget is a budding photographer and is allowing people to use her images on their sites in return for a link back to her site. Check them out at BlogPhotos.us

I have to confess that I haven’t really done much of anything with my digital photos. Some are saved on memory sticks, some are in digital photo frames, and some are saved on my computer or burned to a cd. I rarely print them off and almost never alter them in any way. My physical photos from pre-digital camera days suffer similar fates. They lie in boxes, waiting to be framed or put in albums. Not a priority, they may wait for a long time.

Not everyone is as lax as I am with their photos. Former scrappers have become dedicated to digital scrapbooking. For those of you who enjoy giving your photos the love they deserve, I’ve found a couple of websites that you may find useful. One is at Digital Scrapbooks and More and the other is a Squidoo lens called Digital Scrapbooking Freebies.

I’m sure I would really enjoy scrapbooking and I’ve promised myself I will get around to all those photos someday soon. Maybe I need a month away to work on them or something. Motivation anyone?

One nice thing about listening to the radio is the fact that you can continue with other activities at the same time. The downside to traditional radio is the fact that you have to listen to a show at the time that show is on the air.

Internet radio to the rescue. Not only interesting, easy to listen to shows, but once they’ve aired, you can listen to them on your computer whenever you like. And if you listen while the show is being recorded, you can interact with the host by means of a chat feature or by using your microphone. How many traditional radio shows can do that?

One of the most popular sites to listen to the radio online is Blog Talk Radio. There you’ll find a radio show for every topic imaginable. Some are hosted by names you’ll recognize and some might be presented by someone in your neighbourhood. With the Internet, anything is possible.

If you’ve always wanted to try your hand at a radio show, sign up to be a host. It’s free, not too hard, and can be done once or on a regular basis. Besides something to talk about, or interview someone else about, all you need is the ability to make a long distance call. (You’ll use the Internet to monitor your show, but your telephone to do the talking.) Once your show is recorded, you can download the mp3 or put it on a website. Blog Talk Radio will also submit your episode to Itunes.

Maybe you’ll find your calling hitting the airwaves. I certainly enjoyed doing it, in spite of any mistakes I made. Go ahead and listen to my first episode of Inspirational Women and let me know when you record your own show.

One of the ladies in my computer club was looking for some public domain music to add to the slideshow she had created in Windows MovieMaker. We found some good classical music at musopen.com

These days, with the weather so changeable, it’s a good idea to make sure there are no flight delays before you head out to the airport. Here in Toronto, I checked the flight arrivals at GTAA (otherwise known as Pearson airport) before going to meet my daughter’s flight. 

I was so pleased to have found the site. In an easy to understand format, all of the air flights were listed. At a glance, I could see which planes were on time, which had arrived, and which flights were delayed, along with the new arrival time.  Sure enough, daughter’s flight had been delayed for quite some time. Taking a few minutes to hop on the Internet saved us hours of waiting around at the airport.
