I was so impressed with a story I read on CNN yesterday. Ivy Bean is 104 years old and is using Twitter to keep in touch with people on her computer. And from a nursing home no less. She has 27,000 followers and lets them know all about her daily life. She’s also active on Facebook, but prefers Twitter. And now, even the press is interviewing her. All because of the computer. No wonder I’m so adamant about how that machine can enrich the lives of older people.
I’m giving a presentation to the seniors at the local community center next week to encourage them to join the computer club that I run. Usually I get at least one person asking “why should I bother with computers at my age?”
I intend to print off this article and show everyone that our brains are every bit as able now as when we were younger. Go ahead and read the article for a good dose of inspiration.
O, and I want to eventually live somewhere like Hillside Manor. They are doing everything they can to keep the residents healthy and happy. Good for them.

I to was pleased when I first learned of this 104 year old joining Twitter. Not s pleased when I learned it was during the time Ashton Kucher(& also Oprah)where tearing up twitterville(my made up word) and at least in the case of Ashton was able to beat CNN to a million.
Anyhoo the point being she seems to have had a lot of help from a British newspaper and last I knew about this situation there where very few actual tweets by this lady.If the present situation is other than how I described it, I back off and say “more Power to Seniors”
Should have read the CNN article first and more importantly checked her twitter page. Does seems to fairly active, more power to her and as they aay ” May God Bless”. I too hope that if and when the “that Time” comes that any Rest Home I’m required to go to is as pleasant as her’s seems to be
There are some nice alternatives to rest homes when our time comes Robert. We could stay in a hotel or on a cruise ship for about the same price. I’m easy to please, just give me a computer and hot coffee, the rest is negotiable.
Boy sounds great, count me in for the hotel( not so sure about the cruise ship)
Hi Carol,I am really impressed with your blog. I enjoyed the story about the 104 year old lady. That just reinforces what I believe and that is that life isn’t over until it’s over. I am with you and Robert on the hotel or cruise ship.I think what you are doing is wonderful. If people will just try the computers out I think they will see that it opens up a whole new world.
Hi Gail, so nice to see you here. Maybe you and I could be teaching computers on the cruise ship.
