Back Up With Mozy Before You Break Down

Posted in Hardware, Internet and Email, Home Computing Tips at 8:30 pm by webmaster

Envision this: my laptop has just died, but I have rescued my hard drive and connected it to my desktop computer. Feeling secure that my data was now safe, I merrily start typing away. Suddenly my screen goes black and my computer powers off.

Heart attack city, here I come! My first thought is do I have a backup? And my answer unfortunately is no. Many weeks of work, precious pictures and music gone forever.

Thankfully, I was able to revive my computer and frantically searched for a free backup site called Mozy that I had heard about. Now I can breathe a sigh of relief and enjoy my computer experience again.

If you need a computer backup, Mozy is the only free, full-featured remote backup service. Get peace of mind - try Mozy.

and let me know what you think. By the way, the free service is a limited size and the link for it is found near the bottom of the page (left side, unless they’ve moved it).

Lightscribe May Not Be Included

Posted in Hardware, Home Computing Tips at 11:25 pm by webmaster

Recently, I was at a computer store that was selling a DVD re-writer that included Lightscribe (technology that allows you to burn text and images right onto a cd or dvd) at an unbelievably low price.

I quickly purchased one and as the clerk was writing out my bill, mentioned how I was looking forward to using Lightscribe. I was then informed that the reason the drives were being sold so cheaply was because there was a mistake with the manufacturing and even though it was mentioned on the box, there was no Lightscribe capability.

When I suggested there should be some mention of that fact beside the sale items, I was told that most people didn’t even know what Lightscribe was, so they hadn’t bothered.

Moral of the story - if you are looking for a specific item, don’t take it for granted it will be included with your purchase, even if the package says it is!
