Another new product I bought at the drugstore for under $10 is a wrist rest that you put on like a bracelet. Mine is called a C-Pal and gives my wrist extra support. I have already had carpal tunnel surgery and don’t want to injure myself again, so I like this idea. So far, it seems to work well. I can type for quite a while without any pain.

It seems I learn best by making mistakes, but some of them cost me a lot of time and money. The two biggest errors for me were:
1. taking the time and effort to figure out how to do or fix something on the computer and then not remembering how to do it again because I didn’t bother to write everything down. I think I’ll remember, but after a number of weeks or months, there is no way.
2. buying every new piece of software I can afford and then never getting around to using it. (this is my biggest problem because I’m a softwareaholic with no spare time.)
What computer lessons have you learned the hard way?

These days, spammers are trying all kinds of ingenious ways to get you to either part with your personal information or open an attachment that could potentially contain a virus. The emails I’ve been getting lately have been from someone described as a friend or a former classmate or relative who has sent me a greeting card. The actual name of the person is never mentioned and there is an attachment for me to open if I want to see the card and the name of its sender. I’ve made it a rule never to open attachments, but there are times my curiosity almost gets the better of me. Then I remember that curiosity killed the cat.

Picasa is a free photo editing program available from Google. It can easily fix red-eye, crop unwanted areas, change colors and a number of other neat effects. After seeing all the great features of the Picasa program, I wanted to download it to my home computer.
To do this, you go to the Google site and click the “more” button (mine was in the top left corner) then you will see an option that says “photos”. When you click it, you will be taken to a Picasa page. If you want a photo sharing site online, fill out the form.
For the actual Picasa download, scroll to the bottom of the page and click Download Picasa. Save it to your computer, then locate the file and run it to install the program. Next step is to have fun playing with all the features - and don’t forget to take a break now and then.
