CafePress

Posted in Computer Crafting, Home Computing Tips at 4:16 pm by webmaster

Another web service for artists is cafepress.com and after a short wait, I received two calendars and a framed tile from them. The tile is framed in wood and makes a great wall hanging. My only complaint was that the picture was a little darker than the original, but still quite nice.

The calendars were from two different cafepress stores - one that my new daughter-in-law set up and that has 12 wedding pictures she chose for the calendar - a great keepsake. The photos are not as clear as their smaller originals, so the pictures should have been a higher resolution, I guess. The other calendar was created in Photoshop and the colours are clear and vibrant.

The one drawback to CafePress is that they are an American company, so I had to pay over $15 in duty.

Lulu

I have been to visit lulu.com and was impressed with their service. If you have always wanted to write your own book or publish a book of your photos or art, the service is easy to use and seems to be quite reasonable. You set your price and Lulu takes care of collecting the money and shipping or downloading to the purchaser.

My daughter, Melanie Bremner, has written a few books that are displayed there (mainly for children) and the book covers look very attractive and professional.

Magnetic Business Cards

Posted in Computer Crafting, Home Computing Tips, Computer Supplies at 4:02 pm by webmaster

Instead of paying for promotional materials, why not create your own?

These can be easily made using magnet paper from your local office supply store. The paper will need to be cut on a paper cutter after, but makes nice business cards that people can stick up on the frig.

Use printable magnet paper for the type of printer you have. Don’t use inkjet paper in your laser printer - it doesn’t always work ( I tried).

  • Open a blank document in Word or similar, click {Tools} and {Envelopes and Labels}.
  • Click the {Labels} tab and type the information that will be on your business cards into the blank area marked “address”.
Make sure “print full page of the same label” is selected.
  • To change the size of the card, click {Options}, choose the Product Number that matches the size you want - details are shown on the right side. Then click {Okay}.
  • Now click {New Document}, not Print, and you should see a page of your business cards all nicely set up.
  • Make any changes needed, click {File} and {Save} so you can print more another time.
  • Click {File} and {Print Preview}to make sure it looks the way you want it to.
  • Click {File} and {Print}. You may be instructed to feed the paper into the printer manually at this point, so follow the instructions. (Test first on a piece of plain paper.)

Starting From Scratch

Posted in Making Money With Your Computer at 8:44 am by webmaster

I have decided to start fresh with my trying to learn Internet Marketing. I have bought way too many tutorials I have not finished and dowloaded way too many free resources I have never read. I feel like a chicken with my head cut off, running in so many directions and not knowing where I am going. I am forcing myself not to buy or download anything else until I use what I have. It has been harder than I thought and I am beginning to wonder if there is an information addicts anonymous for people like me.

To follow along with me, I have set up a blog at motivatedtolearn.blogspot.com

Adsense Frustration

Posted in Making Money With Your Computer, Home Computing Tips at 10:45 pm by webmaster

I am not really frustrated with adsense as much as with my lack of HTML skill. Now that my blogs are in Wordpress, I have to re-do the placement of the adsense code. As far as I remember, it was fairly simple when I was using Blogger. But not so with Wordpress, I have been fiddling around with it for over half an hour and finally gave up on it with one of my blogs. Since there are categories and different presentation styles, the code is much harder to place - at least for an old girl like me. So until I learn a little more, my adsense earnings will stay small - and here I was finally breaking the $10 mark!
